TIPS for a SUCCESSFUL season
- Remember that all coaches are volunteers.
If there is a problem, speak up about it respectfully to the coach
first then if the problem isn't resolved contact the coordinator.
- Call your coach if you are going
to miss a practice or game.
- Stock extra COLORED mouth guards
at home or in your car in case they get lost or chewed. No mouthguard
- No play.
- Drink water BEFORE a game or practice to
hydrate your body. Bring plenty of water with you to practice &
games.
- Focus on learning the basics; how to hold
the stick, dribbling, driving and moving your feet. Make simple
drills fun!
- Dress in layers once the weather gets cold.
- Wear comfortable clothes to practice, no
jeans or denim and remember to tie hair back.
- Turn in all forms on time!
- Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are
a lot of rules, fouls and whistles in field hockey.
- Save old 2 liter Coke bottles and fill with
water or sand to use as cones when practicing drills at home.
- Invest in an additional stick ($12.00
at longstreth.com) and have someone practice with you at home.
- Be sure when taking pictures throughout
the season to save pics to disk and turn them in to be included
in the end of year slideshow at the banquet.
- Remember sideline equiette. Be respectful
to ALL players, coaches, parents & referees. Refs have the final
call and parents can be ejected for disruptive behavior.
- Learn to play with passion, not aggression.
Most importantly have fun and practice good sportsmanship! |
